Winter Wine Festival - February 1-2 & 8-9

Chase away those winter blues with a visit to Gillis of Belleisle’s Winery during the first 2 weekends in February. Visit the winery between noon and 8pm for guided winery tours, tastings and snowshoe hikes. The winery is dressed in its winter best, with drapes of lights that will be lit each evening at 6pm. There will also be an on-site winter market for your Valentine’s Day shopping.

Gillis of Belleisle is the only winery in NB producing an ice wine style wine - their Late Harvest - which is a blend of NB white wine grapes. In order to be an ice wine, grapes must be harvested after three consecutive nights of -8C, usually occurring by mid-January. The freeze-thaw cycle increases the sugar content in the grapes making an extra sweet dessert wine. Gillis of Belleisle’s most recent vintage was harvested early, in December of 2012, to save the grapes from vectors that were eating the fruit.

In addition to the festivities at the winery, Uncorked Tours will be offering guided hikes to the Springfield Ice Caves every Saturday and Sunday in February and March, departing from the Shell station at 1:30pm each day. Upon reaching the ice caves, guests will be treated to a glass of hot, mulled wine.
