We had our first guests for the Saint John Uncorked walking tour on Saturday. It was a beautiful day, and people were keen to sample some wine and beer. North Market Seafood offered a delicious choice of smoked salmon that was paired wonderfully with three Cuvee wines from Winegarden, their white, rose, and red.
Next stop was Big Tide. Tom did a fabulous job describing the brewing process. He mentioned wild hops are growing down at Rainbow Park, which I did manage to find yesterday while down at the garden. Big Tide offered 4 beer for sampling and they were delicious. Our third stop was a visit to happinez wine bar. Here we had a delicious selection of NB cheese and charcuterie. Sarah did a great job explaining the different items on the plate and was a wonderful hostess. We took a break and sat outside enjoying the warm temperature. Summer's finally here. We were treated to an olive oil tasting at Liquid Gold by manager, Gavin. You'll never go back to your regular stuff after this experience. The Ultra Premium oils have flavour and texture, while the older stuff we're used to eating and cooking with is inedible by comparison. Last stop was the Ale House where we enjoyed some Moosehead products and the Simeon Jones from Picaroons, bringing our wine and beer tour full circle through the history and local players. Alex was great, and the staff had set out a delicious offering of house-cured olives, prosciutto, and chips. Here are a few photos of the day. We had a great group! Saint John Uncorked is available Wed-Sat at 1:30pm. The price is $45/person+HST and includes all wine, beer and food samples. Use the contact form to make a reservation. Cheers, Gilliane
